topsy turvy world?

7 May

fall_ROADKILLSTART

what i find really strange is that the balance of the world seems to be have tipped in the past couple of months..

everything seems to be going a bit crazy.. around the world and in my life too… i don’t know if everyone else feels the same…

there have been earthquakes around the world..

bombs – including boston, iraq, pakistan

other sorts of disasters: bangladesh collapse of factory building, mexico gas tanker blast

even the price of gold has been all over the place…

add in political and economic uncertainty

coupled with the fact that barcelona lost to bayern munich 4-0 the first leg – and 3-0 the second leg of the UEFA Champtions League… and life just doesn’t make sense anymore!

i just feel that the world seems to get more and more chaotic…

has it always been this way or have i just been more aware of the news?

its a really sad state of affairs and i really do wish that life was easier on a lot of people..

i wish we had more peace (as cliche as it sounds), mutual respect, and desire to help others succeed as opposed to pure selfishness…

tomorrow when i wake up.. i want to hear something good happening in the world.. i really do…

spanish advert with a secret message for children

7 May

the below story is a phenomenal use of technology to deliver a targeted message

this is super impressive and very innovative!

its a sad subject matter.. and hopefully this will help empower young children that suffer :(

This Ad Has a Secret Anti-Abuse Message That Only Kids Can See

In an effort to provide abused children with a safe way to reach out for help, a Spanish organization called the Aid to Children and Adolescents at Risk Foundation, or ANAR for short, created an ad that displays a different message for adults and children at the same time.

The secret behind the ad’s wizardry is a lenticular top layer, which shows different images at varying angles. So when an adult—or anyone taller than four feet, five inches—looks at it they only see the image of a sad child and the message: “sometimes, child abuse is only visible to the child suffering it.” But when a child looks at the ad, they see bruises on the boy’s face and a different message: “if somebody hurts you, phone us and we’ll help you” alongside the foundation’s phone number.

The ad is designed to empower kids, particularly if their abuser happens to be standing right next to them.

one of those days: stressed out gums!?!?!?!

23 Apr

in teeth

i have had more anesthesia pumped into my mouth over the past 10 days than i care to elaborate..

whoever knew a root canal could be so flipping time consuming!!!!

so the root canal-ling part is done – and they are building a crown or something or the other…

i have not had bad pain in my tooth throughout the whole process… except today!!!!

it is so so painful.. apparently my gums are super stressed out…

while the tooth massacre-ist (aka dentist) is telling me this – i am thinking.. HA! you think my gums are stressed! have you not seen the rest of me! and ofcourse.. this was punctuated with a big GRRR (in my head) ;p

to be fair – the dentist is great – the service and staff at Drs Nicholas & Asp Centre has always been amazing!

pain is part and parcel of visiting a dentist i guess!

One of those Days: Sick

22 Apr

cartoon-bug

Its been a while since I got seriously sick (alhamdulilah of course) and I have always thought of myself as someone who doesn’t have a sensitive stomach at all (cuz I basically eat anything) until this weekend, when I woke up and realised that I had the stomach flu. It was definitely not a pretty scene, a very painful feeling and 2 days of torture.

Apparently it’s happening to a lot of people specially kids these days, but I just didn’t expect it, and kept fighting until I couldn’t resist anymore. Thank god it only lasted for a day, and the next day was just recovery, but I was very happy to get back on my feet that soon :D

What also surprised me is that not only that I couldn’t eat a single bite of anything, but even smelling food, or looking at food pictures got me sick too!!! it was a disaster, specially when your parents starts experimenting their home remedies on you and you try your best to convince them otherwise, and they finally win..! not pretty.

Anyway, I shall be back on track soon, you stay healthy people, be careful as this thing can be contagious, so keep away !!!!!

Cause: Eat Healthy Q8

obesity AD 24x30cm w5cmbleed

“EatHealthyQ8 is a first of its kind Nationwide initiative that focuses on children with the help of their parents to improve their eating habits, and to curb the growing trend of childhood obesity in Kuwait. The EatHealthyQ8 Initiative is a collaborative effort by Diet Center Kuwait with the cooperation of the Public Administration for Private Education, The Ministry of Education, The Ministry of Health and the International Organization for Migration along with ARGANA Hotels and Resorts. The initiative of the initiative is to engage 10 different schools to enroll 30 children ages 11 to 14 in the EatHealthyQ8 program. The month-long program teaches children the benefits of proper eating habits and physical activities as part of a healthy lifestyle.”

This is such a great initiative that everyone should take seriously and support. I personally was one of the kids who grew up thinking that i always had to finish my plate, it didn’t make me fat, but it definitely forced me to take extra kilos here and there. Its something am working on myself and wanting to change. What about you?

good to be back… to an earthquake?!?!?!

sunday night i left london, and reached dubai early monday morning.. and straight into work..

i hadn’t been feeling too dandy – a bit fluey and a bit sore throaty… and just really drained!

monday morning – i stayed at work half the day – took a conference call from home.. and passed out from about 4pm till 8pm and then slept a short while after again!

the next morning (yesterday) it was still difficult waking up – still was feeling fluey and tired and blegh really..

at noon i left to have a root canal done at Dr. Nicholas & Asp Centre in Jumeirah 3! they have to be the best dentists that i have ever come across!!!!!!!!!!

at 2:30 i made it back to work – and lo and behold – 30 minutes later there’s an earthquake!!!!!!! our whole building swings from side to side (i thought i was just not feeling so well!!!!)

we were evacuated from the building and shortly after asked to leave the office…

i believe the earthquake was felt in a large part of the middle east and originated in iran… did you feel it?

such a waste of being back at work for 2 days!!!!! i’m just glad the dentist wasn’t working on my teeth when the building shook!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

today – i am feeling pretty crappy! i can’t open my mouth much – swollen face ;) and sniffles – throat ache – headache.. and just generally blegh..

and this, my friends, this is why i’m hot ;p

lol

happy wednesday :D

i conquered Adam’s Peak – Sri Lanka

11 Feb

sri-pada

on our travels to Sri Lanka – my best friend (roo roo) and i decided to challenge ourselves by climbing Adam’s Peak..

now before i tell you about the mountain itself – i would like to tell you about my mindset when i decided i would climb this mountain (which in my head was a hill and people were just going on about it more) i had not read much about it – so i went into this journey with a very ‘whatever, i can do it’ kind of view…

we started our climb around 2am – we had stayed at the bungalow where i had gotten less than an hour and a half of sleep and roo roo had gotten about 3-4 hours of broken sleep.. suffice to say we had migraines and were in foul moods!

we reached the base of the mountain – and the steps were not so steep – there was a lot of periods where we could just walk slightly uphill… and we saw a reclining buddha – we were taking photos, we imagined it would be tough but we would be able to do it…

all i remember – is seeing an archway – through which we crossed and saw the lighting all the way to the top of the mountain – showing us how much further we would have to climb – at that point roo roo and i burst into hysterics… and it was at this point i realised that i hadn’t properly realised the challenge that was before us…

nothing will ever compare to the five minutes of panicked hysteria – but we started our climb – taking short breaks and stopping for small bites of chocolate to keep us going… it is all steps! all super steep steps! and you just have to keep going!!!!!

at one point – after having climbed for what seemed like an eternity – i remember asking people how much further to the top, and we kept getting different answers… i was just desperate to know.. i remember at one point – someone told us 400 more steps – i would literally count 50 or 75 steps which i hate to take before i stopped for a breather…

roo roo and i managed to keep the same pace and somehow – made it to the top.. the climb towards the end was so steep that they had made railings and we had to grab on to the railing and pull our body weight up..

making it to the top was one of the biggest sense of achievements – we watched the sun rise and it was absolutely beautiful! we had completed a trek 7km of steeeeepp stairs – and made it up to the peak in about 3 hours and 20 minutes!

no words will ever be able to describe the feeling on that trip up the mountain – nor the sense of elation and achievement we felt at the top… we were above the clouds and all other mountains were below us…

a few photos later – the climb down! the never ending staircase was still never ending! i can’t remember how long it took – about an hour and a half or two..

finally we were at the base! and we revived ourselves with some fresh coconut water! so yum!!!!!!!!!!

this is the biggest physical challenge that i have conquered – and i’m sure that i can say the same for roo roo!

i don’t know if i would ever do it again – i highly doubt it! but if anyone goes to sri lanka – maybe you should try it ;p

i warn you tho – roo roo and i both walked like 70 year olds for about 4 days ;p

just make sure you know what you are getting into..

How Safe Are We?

4 Jan

As you all have probably heard about the devastating murder that happened last month at the Avenues mall (Read about it HERE) and how everyone was shocked of how things went. The most important question that everyone was asking is: how come? how is it even possible? is killing someone is that easy? And of course us being only human beings, we got scared! and everyone started thinking of how can someone protect themselves in such situations.

We read about crimes in the newspaper EVERYDAY! whether it’s stabbing, stealing or hitting, but we kinda got to used to these stories that we chose to ignore and not read in the first place. Until it really happens in front of you like what happened in the Avenues, or to someone close to you, then it gets really serious.

A relative of mine was out on new years eve, came back that night to find that someone broke into his house and robbed it. Thank god who ever that bastard is, he only went for the cash and it wasnt much. but the idea of someone breaking into your house that easily is scary enough. I never really thought that someone might break into my room, so imagine the house!

I have always considered Kuwait as a very safe country and Al hamdullilah nothing scary ever happened to me, but you cant help but wonder and think “what if”. I mean, me being a girl who goes out alone sometimes, I drive alone, I might be somewhere shopping alone, how safe can I be? and if am not, how can I be safer? I came across this article showing that the crime rate in Kuwait increased in the past 2 years (read HERE), which made me think harder about the situation.

I don’t consider myself as a girl who would freak out and not do anything if someone tried to attack me. But ive never been in such situation so I would never know right? but if you are a girl like me, what would you do? do you usually carry things that would help you protect yourself? please share your thoughts with us!

Stay safe all..
