this really made me laugh! and can we ever laugh to much?
i think not!
Happy Sunday folks ;p (i’m loving the word “folks” – so out of character ;p)
i was super lucky to be able to watch The Great Gatsby before it was officially came out in Dubai – thanks to Tiffany & Co that had an event and had a private cinema viewing for everyone invited to the event… (you can read about that here)
now…
The Great Gatsby – originally a book by F. Scott Fitzgerald – now a movie featuring Leonardo DiCaprio, Joel Edgerton, Tobey Maguire, and Carey Mulligan.
the official synopsis of the movie is:
“The Great Gatsby” follows Fitzgerald-like, would-be writer Nick Carraway (Tobey Maguire) as he leaves the Midwest and comes to New York City in the spring of 1922, an era of loosening morals, glittering jazz, bootleg kings, and sky-rocketing stocks. Chasing his own American Dream, Nick lands next door to a mysterious, party-giving millionaire, Jay Gatsby (Leonardo DiCaprio), and across the bay from his cousin, Daisy (Carey Mulligan), and her philandering, blue-blooded husband, Tom Buchanan (Joel Edgerton). It is thus that Nick is drawn into the captivating world of the super rich, their illusions, loves and deceits. As Nick bears witness, within and without of the world he inhabits, he pens a tale of impossible love, incorruptible dreams and high-octane tragedy, and holds a mirror to our own modern times and struggles.
my thoughts – it is an captivating movie with bold characters and portrayal of a time in America where the country was thriving and it was the life of excess and excitement – the flapper era! oh how i wish i could experience that time!
what i loved was how that period was represented – it was beautifully done! the costumes, the glamour, the houses.. i really felt consumed by the movie… it was almost if i was there and looking in…
i don’t want to reveal too much – but the change in your feelings towards the characters changes drastically throughout the movie, and towards the end, you don’t see most of the characters in the same way you did in the beginning…
what i didn’t like s much was the ending – just because you have more hope that people are less selfish and less self centered…
for me, i loved the first hour and a half a lot more than the last bit… but all in all.. i would say a definite must watch – a gripping tale of love, lust, desire, selfishness and purity…
if you have seen it – let me know what you think :)
yesterday, my friend managed to score an invite to the Tiffany & Co event – they were showcasing The Great Gatsby jewellery and giving out cinema tickets for the movie in a private showing @ Dubai Mall!
everyone was dressed sooo glamourously! and the ushers had little flapper dresses – they looked absolutely stunning!!
so her and I went along – and wow! the whole event was soooo well organised! it was super impressive.. we walked into the store and had a quick look around the jewellery! it was sooo beautiful…
and then we were escorted to the mall taxis – with dressed up chauffeurs – who took us to the cinema… it was so surreal! being all dressed up and being inside a mall on this little car… when we got upstairs to the cinema – we were served popcorn and drinks (in a Tiffany’s cup! how lovely!!)
the cinema was made up entirely of gorgeously dressed people – it just felt very odd being dressed up in a cinema – i loved it!
at the beginning of the movie – we learnt a lot about how F. Scott Fitzgerald had a close connection to Tiffany & Co – it was very dear to him and a usual choice for gifts…
and the movie was just amazing! (review to follow soon ;p)
i couldn’t take my eyes of some of the jewellery!
it was an amazing experience!!!!
I love u even more now TIFFANY & CO!
in the spirit of the David Guetta concert being held in the Dubai over the weekend, with a surprise visit from Akon – i thought this was the perfect song for the week…
so here’s something upbeat to lift your spirits!!! its almost the weekend people ;p
Play Hard – David Guetta featuring Akon and Ne-Yo
its strange – my place of work has to be one of the oddest places that exist in terms of employment.. (and I mean just out department)
sometimes I feel it is some kind of soap opera with a little less “romance”
however, all other fronts make up for the drama about 3-4 fold the drama missing on the romantic front…
today we had two people almost get into a fight – a physical one… and verbal abuse was thrown around…
there was a pair of scissors also tossed at one of the guys…
i don’t know exactly what the situation was – luckily i was out of the office…
but one of the guys has been fired while the other has been sent home for a week!
i just feel that the level of professionalism in the office is ridiculous…
the guy that got fired has made inappropriate perverted comments in the past – and those comments are kinda R rated!
i don’t know what to think – i just feel bad for the family of the guy that got fired – i hope he finds a job very soon..
i am a level headed human being.. really.. i am..
i am not like one of those girly girls that freak out when they see a spider – and i do not drive like i’m on some kinda twisted crack! i know how to go around roundabouts, over speedbumps, and even though i like to speed – i am quite vigilant in doing so!
i even know what the off-side rule in football is!!!
i am not going off on this diatribe because i am trying to justify my manliness – although if you were to concede that i was quite manly in my behaviours i would be the opposite of offended :D
so basically! i had a super airheady moment today! where i lost my car in the dubai mall parking lot!!! i spent 50 minutes looking for it! now – this isn’t normal behaviour for me! i am usually good with parking – and usually organised! i blame my colleague that was chatting away about ridiculous stuff while we were getting out the car! she completely threw off my groove! ;p
so stupid, airheady, bimbo-ey moment over! not to be repeated!!!
i ended up being 30 minutes late for a meeting – oh well ;p
advice: make sure you know where you park your car in dubai mall!!!!!!!!
since in the gulf countries – and across some of the middle east – we tend to work or go to school from Sunday to Thursday – i thought it’d be a cool idea to have sunday morning ‘wake up calls’
this can pretty much be anything that makes me smile – or laugh – a joke – a quote – an image of somewhere i’d rather be.. anything really
just a little pick me up for a sunday morning :)
